Hi, I’m Lauren, a graphic designer-turned-cookier, obsessed with creating more joy in life and in the kitchen.
I decorated my first cookie when I was going through the hardest years of my life. I had a baby with a serious medical condition, and my life changed in an instant. My son’s needs were so tremendous that I left my graphic design job and became his around-the-clock caretaker. Eventually we found some stability, and I decided to bring something into my life that was just for ME: cookie decorating!
Over the last four years, I’ve taught myself the dos and don’ts of baking and decorating cookies through a lot of trial and error. Now, I want to share the basics and techniques that look impressive, but can be easy to master. My goal is to inspire you to jump in and choose to have more fun and joy in life-through cookies!

Instead of a scribe tool for smoothing your icing, Ijust shake my cookie and it settles it down evenly.

Sure! It’s what I call flocking sugar. It’s homemade powdered sugar lightly colored and gives a soft, velvety feel and look. 💕
Notes from video Royal Icing Into mixer with beating paddle attachment: ¾ cup Warm/Hot water (hot helps break down meringue powder) ⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon meringue powder (miracle meringue powder; add a little more if using a different brand) 2 tablespoons clear vanilla Start mixing on low, go until it gets pretty foamy. Scrape sides & re-mix. 2 lbs powdered sugar (add it all at once - but no lumps) Start mixing on low, pat sides to help shake it down. As soon as it starts to come together, stop mixer. Add 1-2 tablespoons of corn syrup (helps keep it flow and keep icing soft) Turn the mixer back on, slowly move to high. Mix to stiff peaks. It will really start to fill the bowl, like ¾ of the bowl will be filled and looking fluffy. You don't want to overmix; if you do you cannot move it around in the bowl, it will make the icing dry and crumbly.

I am so glad to have run up on your site. I have a question: how do you package decorated cookies with the frosting in mind?
Thank you! I put them under or in front of a fan after decorating and will leave them there for about 8 - 12 hours. That will allow them to completely dry, you can then stack and package without damage.

Hey Lolly! I'm new to your chanel, but I love you seem to be an amazing artist when it comes to cookies. I am an absolute begginer, but I want to make some special cookies for friends and teachers to give to them on the last day of school, and I have a couple of questions about decorating cookies. You added a dot pattern with an edible food marker, but would I be able to add it with small dots of frosting? Would that still look cute, or would the bumps make it look too complicated? Another option I thought of was a technique I have seen people do called wet on wet, do you think it would look good if I were to add slightly darker orange dots to the fill? Which one do you think would look better, or should I invest in edible food markers? Another question I have is, when filling with the flood consistency frosting, how do I prevent a visible distinction between the flood and the outline? I also was wondering if it is better for the cookie istelf to be more soft or more, like hard in order to decorate it better? How long does it take for the frosting to harden, and should I wait for the flood base to harden completely before adding details or can I just wait for it to crust over? Does the flood consistency and the thicker frosting have different drying times? Can I use a ziplock sandwich bag in place of a piping bag? How long do the decorated cookies last, like how far ahead of time can I make them? What if I’m using a hand mixer? How long would I need to whip for? 😅
It's not about an exact amount of time that you mix, you will want to mix until you get stiff peaks!

I guess I am just Screwed out the gate because I can’t ever get that consistency where I can “pull” a line like that. I feel like it’s a 10-15s consistency I’m using but maybe that’s wrong? Maybe I’m wrong and have a bad recipe 😅

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I'm working on an order of 10 dozen cookies for a wedding shower. There is a lot of writing involved from the couples names, monogram, phrases, etc. I can't afford a projector, so I'm excited to try this technique. Writing on cookies is a struggle for me.
